These chokes are used to protect capacitor batteries in inductive reactive power compensators. Capacitor batteries and chokes make resonance systems limiting (filtering) harmonic current and safeguarding batteries against this type of overloading. Such a protection eliminates harmonics, which are detrimental to capacitors. They are built for various battery voltages and for filtering different harmonics, characterised by the dampening ratio “p”, given in %.
There are two values for the dampening ratio:
– p=7% – filtering from the fifth harmonics and above Together with a capacitor they make an LC filter of resonance frequency fr=189Hz.
– p=14% – filtering from the third harmonics and above Together with a capacitor they make an LC filter of resonance frequency fr=134Hz.
