Filter Reactors for Detuned Capacitor Banks
Filter reactors are used with capacitor banks in power factor correction systems where voltage and current harmonics are present. Together with the capacitors, the reactor creates a detuned circuit that protects the bank and avoids resonance with the supply network.
The reactor limits harmonic current flowing through the capacitors, reduces the risk of overload and overheating, and stabilises operation of the compensation system in distorted networks.
Each reactor is selected for the capacitor rating, network voltage, frequency, detuning factor and expected harmonic spectrum. The thermal design must also consider the increased current caused by harmonics and the actual ventilation conditions inside the cabinet.

Where filter reactors are used
Typical applications include installations with variable-frequency drives, UPS systems, rectifiers, welding equipment and other non-linear loads that generate harmonics.
Role in the compensation system
Capacitors compensate inductive reactive power. Filter reactors protect the capacitors and move the resonant frequency of the capacitor bank below the dominant harmonic frequencies. This helps prevent amplification of harmonic currents.
Custom design
Inducto manufactures reactors for different system voltages and detuning factors. Connections, temperature protection and mechanical arrangement can be adapted to the capacitor-bank design.
