Medical Isolation Transformers for IT Systems
Inducto manufactures INH medical isolation transformers for electrical installations in medical locations where galvanic separation from the public supply network is required. The transformers are designed in accordance with EN 61558-2-15 and form part of medical IT power supply systems used in areas with increased safety requirements.
Single-phase and three-phase versions are available for medical equipment and installations in IP00 or IP23 execution. The transformers can be equipped with PT100 temperature sensors connected to terminals and with an electrostatic screen between the primary and secondary windings to reduce the transfer of interference.
These solutions are intended for medical locations of Group 2, including operating theatres and intensive care areas, where continuity of supply and insulation monitoring are essential..

Why a medical isolation transformer is used
The transformer provides galvanic separation between the supply network and the connected medical loads. In combination with an insulation monitoring device, the medical IT system can signal the first insulation fault without immediately interrupting the power supply.
Medical versus standard isolation transformers
The difference is defined by the applicable standard and the required electrical parameters, not simply by the external appearance. Medical transformers must meet additional limits for leakage current, no-load voltage, short-circuit voltage and thermal performance.
Typical design range
For Group 2 medical locations, typical single-phase medical transformers have rated outputs from 0.5 to 10 kVA and secondary voltage not exceeding 250 V. Final parameters are selected for the installation and confirmed in the technical documentation:
